The gifted mbira songbird dazzled the laid-back diners with a polished acoustic set which left them crying for more when she left.

Donning a captivating black dress and armed with her colourful mbira with a keyboard player in support, Hope manoeuvred through old-time popular township jazz tracks up to her popular and new tracks.

Old-time classics like Aloise naJenny and Skokiaan seemed to bring back memories to some of the older folk in the place as they sang along and steadily swayed to the melody.

With a vocal ability that does not need instrumental backup to sweeten the music, the songstress turned it up a notch and blessed the patrons with Mapfunde.

The new track Ndiwewe is surely destined for hit status as the vibrant melody electrified the atmosphere and was accompanied by applause at the end.

Some of the songs that Hope performed included Majaira which had a traditional groovy feel and the salsa-blended Because of You.

In an interview with NewsDay, Robertson Winery Intimate Thursdays producer Morris Touch described the show as a great success and was glad diners had enjoyed the music.

“The atmosphere was amazing, the performance was on point and people were enjoying themselves tonight,” said Touch.

Robertson Winery Intimate Thursdays is an initiative that sees artistes perform acoustic sets in an intimate set-up to a non-paying audience.

Some of the artistes who have performed at these gigs include Mokoomba, Tariro Negitare and Trevor Dongo, among others.
