FORMER Zanu PF national chairman Simon Khaya Moyo has played down his demotion, saying President Robert Mugabe had given him yet another “massive, challenging and powerful” portfolio as Economic Planning minister and party spokesperson.

Before his reassignment, Moyo was doubling up as party chairman and Senior Minister in the Office of the President and had for long been touted as a front runner for the Vice-Presidency.
But an exuberant Moyo on Sunday refused to let his apparent demotion spoil his mood, saying Mugabe had appointed him to a “massive” and “challenging” portfolio.
“I am saying this is a massive portfolio and its challenges are vast,” Moyo said when pressed for comment on Sunday.
“You are aware that when you talk about a country and its people, you are talking about the economy. I will discuss my plans and have thorough consultations with the President on this subject.”
Moyo, who seemed to take his demotion on the chin, told our sister paper Southern Eye that he would update Zimbabweans on his plans.
He said the media should not be in a rush to write about his portfolio before he discusses it with Mugabe.

Moyo also congratulated the two newly-appointed Vice-Presidents, Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko.
“I wish to congratulate the two Vice-Presidents for their appointments and wish them well in their tasks,” he said.
