ZPC Kariba coach Saul Chaminuka says they have reached all their targets for this season and there is nothing that can stop them from winning the gold — the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title.

After beating Dynamos 1-0 in the reverse fixture, Chaminuka’s boys believe they can complete a rare double and with it claim the league title when they meet the defending champions at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.

ZPC Kariba are in second place with 53 points while Dynamos have 54 after the Harare giants failed to beat Bantu Rovers on Sunday, instead settling for a scoreless draw.

All along Chaminuka has been arguing that he is not chasing the championship, but has now come out in the open and declared he now wants to lay his hands on the coveted trophy.

“We have been taking it step by step,” said Chaminuka yesterday. “At first our target was to survive relegation and we managed to survive and we set a new target of a top eight finish and it was achieved.

“We then said we want to finish in the top four and again we have achieved. And there is still more to achieve. We now want to win the championship and for us to do that we have to beat Dynamos. This match will decide who will win the title.

“If we beat Dynamos we will win the championship and if Dynamos beat us they will go on to win the championship. It’s the biggest fixture of the week. Every team has been waiting for this match and this is why we have requested to have the match played at the National Sports Stadium because our stadium Gwanzura cannot handle the crowd expected.”

Dynamos complicated life for themselves after stumbling in two of their last three matches against relegation-threatened side Chapungu and Division One-bound Bantu Rovers, where they dropped four points.

Dynamos drew 1-1 against Chapungu at Rufaro before stuttering to a dull 0-0 draw against lowly Bantu Rovers at the same venue on Sunday.

The point gained, however, enabled the champions to bounce back to the top of the league table after ZPC Kariba had shot to the summit of the table 24 hours earlier following a 3-2 win over Harare City.

Dynamos will wind up their campaign with a home tie against How Mine while ZPC Kariba will face off against Caps United in their last match of the campaign, and maybe, just maybe by that time, the league would have been concluded. Caps United who clash against Harare City this weekend still have a mathematical chance of winning the league title following their victory over army side Buffaloes on Sunday. Should they win their last two matches against Harare City and ZPC Kariba with huge margins they can win the title on goal difference if the log leaders draw on Saturday and Dynamos fall to How Mine. Caps United, who are in third place with 49 points, can finish the campaign with 55 points — the same as Dynamos.
