The initiative will be spearheaded by three chiefs and 15 headmen who received $300 each at the launch to buy heifers that will be used to assist the widows and orphans in field-related works.

Speaking at the event, Zivhu said it was high time for the leadership to deliver on their election promises.

“It is high time for us to deliver as councillors, Members of Parliament, headman and chiefs. People must see results from us and be satisfied for voting for us. We have these aged people who cannot be in the fields and must not die of hunger as they need our assistance,” Zivhu said.

“This initiative is something that we want to use to alleviate poverty in our area and prove to the President [Robert Mugabe]that we can embrace the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZimAsset) project without assistance from donors.”

Zivhu took a swipe at factionalism within the ruling party urging Chivi residents to remain united.

“What is happening on the political arena must not affect us as Chivi residents. We must not be divided by this animal called factionalism and it must not be received in our area. The drama unfolding will come to pass, but we must remain focused,” Zivhu said.

Speaking at the same event, Chief Chivi, born Emmanuel Chiimba said:“I am proud of your works as Chivi Rural District Council which must be embraced by everyone in the area to develop our nation.”
