MUTARE —“Action should be taken against our town clerk for deliberately selling the church stand for $20 000 to the Anglican Church against our resolution that it was supposed to go to tender,” said councillor Tarwireyi Mabika.

Dube chipped in saying: “This issue is so saddening. Remember in the previous council, other councillors were alleged to have been bribed for the same stand while other council employees were axed over the same.
“Why do we make resolutions which are not implemented? Why are we wasting our time here? Why do you fear going to tender. The matter of stands is so disturbing here in Mutare because we also have a lot of unsanctioned infill stands being sold out without due process. Managers are running this council like a tuck-shop and not a wholesale and we will deal with that now.”
As the debate rage on, Muneta stood up and ordered councillors to stop harassing her, but wait until Muzawazi had come back from sick leave.
However, the councillors could have none of it as they continued pressing her demanding answers.
Mutare mayor Tatenda Nhamarare later adjourned the matter to the next full council meeting.
“What I will do is to dig deeper on the circumstances surrounding this matter and I will also seek assistance from my deputy mayor and then report back to you on our next full council meeting,” said Nhamarare.

Earlier in the meeting, some councillors had accused Nhamarare of failing to convene full council meetings for the past three months saying this could pave way for Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo to dissolve the council in terms of Urban Council Act.
