HARARE magistrate Tavonga Mtetwa is next Tuesday expected to hand down the ruling in a domestic violence case involving sungura musician Alick Macheso’s son-in-law, Kudakwashe Gladman Munetsi.

Munetsi, who is facing charges of assaulting his wife, Sharon, yesterday urged the court to acquit him on the domestic violence charge arguing that he simply pushed her off to free himself following a brawl.

Munetsi, who was being led by his lawyer Charles Chikore, said he had known Sharon to be a person of a violent disposition especially whenever she was angered by him.

“She also gets possessed by her grandfather and she sniffs some snuff,” Munetsi said.

On the day in question two weeks ago, Munetsi said all hell broke loose when he asked Sharon to explain to him what had become of their wedding cash presents and material gifts.

“As usual, she said her parents had made the marriage possible and I was not supposed to ask her about the cash and gifts. She then called her mother and later her father telling them that I had started enquiring about the money,” Munetsi told the court. In his closing submissions, Munetsi urged the court to dismiss Sharon’s evidence saying it was full of inconsistencies.

In response to Munetsi’s submissions, prosecutor Gayton Vhiriri argued that the State had managed to prove a case beyond reasonable doubt.

Two weeks ago, Sharon was granted a protection order against her husband.

Sharon and Munetsi’s wedding was solemnised on August 6 this year, but the couple found itself before courts barely two months later over violence charges.

Sharon was granted a peace order by magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa after she complained of a series of alleged physical and emotional abuse by her husband.
