Gondo, who missed out on the Hwange Open title last after a heartbreaking playoff carded four-under par 68 to take the outright lead on three-under par on three-under par 141, ahead over South African Sipho Bulega, who is second on two-under par 142.

“I’ve been putting a lot of work in my game and trying to hit as much greens as possible even though I didn’t score as well as I would have wanted on Thursday,” Gondo said “Hopefully I can produce the same performance tomorrow. After losing in the playoff in Hwange I just want to remain calm and do the best I can to make it happen.”

While Gondo shot the best round of the day yesterday after starting with a 73 on Sunday, in contrast Saurombe, who enjoyed a commanding five shot lead at the start of the second round found the going tough, carding a morale sapping six-over par.

Saurombe will start the final round tied for eighth position with the duo of South African Mike Maile and veteran Bulawayo based pro Peter Banda on level par 144.

Seasoned Zambezi Tour campaigner Ignatius Mketekete is tied for third position alongside Nickson Masunga, Ignatius Mketekete, Steven Ferreira, Mohammed Mandhu and John Bele from South Africa.

Chapman-based amateur Pride Sembo leads the way in the amateur section after carding a solid round of one-under par 71 to move into a tie for 11th position together with Nyasha Muyambo, Ryan Lang, South Africa’s Thanda Mavundla on one-over par 145.

A strong field of 90 players of which 56 are professionals is taking part in the 54-hole tournament which has a prize fund of $20 000 courtesy of the sponsors Delta Beverages through their Golden Pilsener brand.
