JAMES Chipara, the younger brother of former sungura artiste Tendai, who was known as Dotcom on the local showbiz scene, has taken over the leadership of Ramangwana Musica after his sibling quit music to pursue what he calls “a divine calling”.

Dotcom is now a prophet with New Revelation Apostolic Church founded by South African-based Prophet Abel Mutumwa, who is mentoring him to take the reins of his Zimbabwean branch of the church.

The 32-year-old Dotcom had released four albums to his name with his debut called Marwadzo in 2011.

In 2012, he released Manyemwe with his third Ngwarawo being released the following year. The latest is Zvakutapira which was released early this year. “The quitting of music by my brother must not be the expiry of Ramangwana Musica. I have decided to step into his shoes and take over from where he left,” James said.

“I, however, don’t plan to ride on my brother’s fame as I believe I am talented in my own way and I am confident that we will maintain the legacy.” James, who is a talented guitarist, said they were not going to divert from Dotcom’s original music, but would seek to maintain the standards he had already set.

A former sungura musician, Dotcom recently told NewsDay that he was ready to do God’s work, having spent about three weeks in Nigeria with renowned Pastor Temitope Balogun Joshua, better known as TB Joshua.

“I have decided to quit music to pursue my calling. I am like the biblical Saul who changed to Paul. I want to pursue God’s work wholeheartedly without any limitations,” he said.

The “Miracle Boy”, has already started performing some “miracles” in Bluffhill, Harare.

Last week on Saturday, a crowd composed of some Nigerian pastors from TB Joshua’s church was part of the flock.

Mutumwa, who calls the former musician his “Miracle Boy”, said Dotcom was a special mention because God wanted to use him in a special way.

“I call him my ‘Miracle Boy’ since it needed divine intervention to convert him. He is special in the arrangement of God’s work,” James said. “It is a testimony on its own for Tendai to quit music though I have many prominent people who have come through. When I had a vision of his future, I then prayed for him and later sent him to TB Joshua because I wanted him to get further guidance,” said Mutumwa.

New Revelation Apostolic Church is one of the many fast-growing churches with branches in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Like many Pentecostal churches, its members believe in the performance of miracles and healing.
