Ephraim Makomere was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Milton Serima. He was remanded out of custody to December 17 2014 on US$50 bail.

Prosecutor Sebastian Mutizirwa alleged that on November 18, Makomere called the woman, who is now employed at a hospital in Belvedere, and asked her to go on a date and she agreed. He then went to pick her up at around 1630hrs.

It is further alleged that the accused told her that he would first take her to his workplace and then they would take a stroll in the central business district afterwards.

The court heard that Makomere bought food for the woman and then drove to Fife Avenue shopping centre where he purchased soft drinks and a bottle of brandy which they shared before driving to a lodge where he allegedly raped her while she was in a state of intoxication.

The woman allegedly woke up at around 1900hrs and discovered that she was back home, but had no recollection of how she got there.

It is alleged that she noticed she was wearing her panties inside out and there was some white discharge indicating that sexual intercourse had taken place.

She allegedly started laughing while holding the bottle of brandy. This prompted her uncle and sister to take her to Harare Central Hospital.

A police report was made, leading to the accused person’s arrest.
