MBIZO MP Settlement Chikwinya has called for the resignation of Education minister Lazarus Dokora after Maths and English “O” Level exam papers were leaked

MBIZO MP Settlement Chikwinya (MDC-T) yesterday called for the resignation of Primary and Secondary Education minister Lazarus Dokora after Maths and English “O” Level exam papers were leaked.

VENERANDA LANGA SENIOR PARLIAMENTARY REPORTER The MP said this in the National Assembly while contributing to debate on a motion in reply to the Presidential Speech which was introduced in the House by Makoni South MP Mandi Chimene (Zanu PF).

“The President in his speech said there will be a review of the primary and secondary school curriculum, but first and foremost we should deal with leakages of examination papers which have become a culture,” Chikwinya said.

“We cannot protect one examination paper, yet we still have a minister in office — that must not be accepted, and he should resign.”

Chikwinya added that as long as the issue of gold and diamond leakages was not resolved, calls by President Robert Mugabe to revive the economy would be fruitless.

“Mugabe talked of reviving the mining sector, but what response mechanisms is he going to put in place because there are many gold leakages. Thanks to the factionalism in Zanu PF we now hear of big people who have allegedly been siphoning minerals. Why should we wait for congress to start getting such reports?” he queried.

The MP said he hoped Finance and Economic Development minister Patrick Chinamasa would be fair when crafting the National Budget to be presented tomorrow as there were fears he could sideline some ministries due to Zanu PF faction fights, especially the Tourism ministry headed by Walter Mzembi.

He also said he would soon introduce a motion calling on Mugabe to appear before Parliament to take questions from MPs. “The President should attend Parliament from time to time so that MPs can interact with him. We must be able to question the President and interact as politicians who were elected on the same day.”

Bulawayo East MP Tabitha Khumalo (MDC-T) questioned why Mugabe would call for the setting-up of a commission of inquiry to investigate dollarisation.

“This dollarisation happened in 2009 and now it is 2014 and for whose benefit will that commission be set up? Instead of investigating dollarisation, that commission should investigate the number of people who contributed to pension funds and are now pensioners and homeless.”

Khumalo said closure of companies had forced Zimbabweans to resort to prayer.

“The moment a country resorts to praying — it is a sign that all is not well because everybody had given up on looking for jobs and the only thing left is to pray to God.”

She called for another commission of inquiry to investigate abuse of funds meant for the Harare Airport Road which has taken several years to complete.

Meanwhile, MDC-T MPs yesterday heckled Shamva South MP Joseph Mapiki (Zanu PF) as he contributed to the Presidential Speech saying he was pretending to support the speech yet he was one of the Zanu PF members suspended for plotting to assassinate Mugabe.

They also shouted “Ngwena, Ngwena” when Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs minister Emmerson Mnangagwa entered the National Assembly.
