Ethel Chikono of Domboshava was brought before Simon Chidziva, the current Chief Chinamhora last Sunday by Emma Ngoshi, accusing her of destroying her marriage.

All hell broke loose after Ngoshi’s husband assaulted her, accusing her of being in a relationship with Chikono’s husband resulting in her being sent back to her parent’s home.

Chikono said she received an anonymous call saying that Ngoshi was with her husband, only identified as a Mr Chidarikire in Borrowdale.

She later went to confront Ngoshi, before reporting the issue to Ngoshi’s husband.

“Emma has destroyed my marriage, I received a call from someone, but the number was hidden. So I failed to identify the person saying that my husband was with her in Borrowdale,” said Chikono.

However, Ngoshi refuted the accusations, saying it was a case of mistaken identity.

She said the man who was with her in Borrowdale was a relative.

“Actually, I was with my relative (Chinyani) when we went to buy a tombstone for my late grandmother. The main issue here is that Ethel has accused me of being in a relationship with her husband and this has broken my marriage and that is the reason why I am here I need to be cleared of these issues,” Ngoshi said. She said since Chidarikire and Chinyani looked alike, they could have mistaken his identity.

Chinyani, who was also a witness at the court, testified that he was with Emma that same day in Borrowdale.

“Emma is my mother and if I know that she is dating someone’s husband, why should I cover such shameless acts? That day, of course, I was with her in Borrowdale when we were looking for a tombstone for our grandmother and as soon as we finished, I took her to the bus stop and I am the one who actually saw her off,” he said.

He ,however, left the court in stitches when he said: “The following day, I heard ndaiva chikomba chamai (I was my mother’s boyfriend).”

Chidarikire refuted the claims that he was dating Emma after the chief asked him of his position since he also gave Ngoshi’s mother $20 for medical bills.

“I am not in a relationship with Emma, her mother called me after Emma was beaten by her husband saying she wanted money for medical bills. So since my wife had caused all that misfortune, I was left in no position, but to only give her the money,” he said.

In his judgment, Chief Chinamhora ruled out that the story between Emma and Ethel was about gossip, which later led to Emma’s marriage breaking down.
