AN assembly of the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe (AFM) will hold a one-week apostolic conference designed to return the church to the doctrine of Christ. The conference starts today and ends on November 30 at Highway Assembly in Houghton Park, Harare.

Highway Assembly leader pastor Caeser Magwentshu said the conference, which ends on Sunday, would be held under the theme Releasing a Generation of Influence. “The church is built upon that doctrine and any diversion of that is a diversion from the truth,” Magwentshu said.

“There is a state of confusion and what the church needs right now is to return to that doctrine.”

Magwentshu said whoever was operating outside the doctrine was not free.

He said the current preachers were “more of motivational speakers” who encouraged people to soldier on because of the current economic environment.

“The current believer would leave church accusing congregants of gossiping. Christianity is not indoctrinating and that is why we have denominations. We are teaching on fundamentals and not foundation,” he said.

Magwentshu said the yesteryear church was afflicted, but never diverted from truth.

There have been reports of church leaders manipulating followers on the pretext that they were doing so according to the Bible.

As a result of the doctrinal errors taking place, worshippers have found it difficult to identify a true church rooted in Christ.

In addition, there has been mushrooming up of churches preaching the gospel of prosperity which has seen a number of assemblies departing from Biblical teachings.

Other than Magwentshu, some of the preachers at the conference include Reverend Ben William, a lecturer at Living Waters Bible College and Reverend Never Muparutsa from the Pentecostal Assemblies of Zimbabwe.

This week’s conference is the fourth held by the Assembly after successfully hosting the Power to Become, Kingdom Impact and the Maturity conferences — all designed to build a strong church that can stand the test of time.
