FlyAfrica joins three other airlines flying on the same route.

Officiating at the launch at Harare International Airport yestersday, Transport and Infrastructural Development deputy minister Petronella Kagonye said government was delighted that FlyAfrica had expanded its route network following its flight to Victoria Falls.

“The government of Zimbabwe is extremely delighted that FlyAfrica is expanding its route network and in so doing bringing its low-cost, reliable and safe service to the people of Zimbabwe and beyond,” Kagonye said.

“We have no doubt that this move by FlyAfrica to add Harare to its network demonstrates full confidence in the Zimbabwean market as a viable destination.

“Beyond welcoming FlyAfrica to Harare International Airport, the Government of Zimbabwe pledges to continue supporting the air transport industry given its strategic importance to national development, through facilitating trade, tourism and regional integration.”

Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe chief executive officer David Chaota said they were thrilled to have a low-cost airline servicing the Harare-Johannesburg route.

“As FlyAfrica, a proudly Zimbabwean registered carrier, today we are admittedly celebrating the official launch of the airline coupled yet again with the launch of the Harare-Johanneburg route,” Chaota said.

“FlyAfrica has so far successfully operated a four-times weekly low-cost service between Victoria Falls and Johannesburg since August 1 and today it’s launching another low-cost daily service between Harare and Johannesburg, both routes being serviced by its Boeing 737-500 aircraft.

“A low cost airline will not only add to airlines operating in Zimbabwe, but stimulate traffic and will also by make flying affordable to ordinary Zimbabweans thereby developing a flying culture.”

FlyAfrica chairman Professor Chakanyuka Karase said: “We want to make travelling affordable and fares which are in the reach of many to reliable and safe travel. We will be introducing other low-cost flights in the near future.”
