“The application has been made and Bulawayo would benefit,” he said.

Zifa has completed the laying of the artificial turf at the Zifa Village in Mt Hampden as part of the first four phases of the Goal Project and will soon start operating a sports bar as part of their fundraising activities after being granted a liquor licence.

Zimbabwe is one of the 44 countries, according to the Fifa website, that has benefited from four goal projects in addition to a new headquarters that Zifa has bought and will be unveiled in due course.

The new HQ was approved last year and was initially meant to be a new construction until Zifa identified a new place.
Fifa says of Zimbabwe: “Following the completion of a good Technical Centre, attention will now turn to the construction of a new headquarters as the present one is less than adequate and is not suitable for the effective and efficient execution of the operations of the MA.

“This development will provide the Zifa secretariat with a conducive working environment. It will enhance the image of the Federation, provide more office space with modern amenities and will also provide the Association with an opportunity to consider disposing of some of their assets to address the debt situation of the MA.”
