Sharon approached the courts citing abusiveness from husband Kudakwashe Gladman Munetsi, barely three months after the couple’s wedding on August 6.

The order was granted by Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa after Sharon sought protection following a series of physical and emotional abuse by her husband.

In her affidavit which formed part of the application, Sharon feared she could fall into miscarriage if the court would not protect her from assaults by Munetsi.

She said: “Barely a month into the marriage, the conduct of the respondent [Munetsi] has been hostile towards me in that he has on several occasions perpetrated acts of physical violence as well as verbal assault on my person.

“The underlying cause of respondent’s behaviour is that he abuses alcohol and drugs. He has a penchant for drinking broncleer, he also smokes cannabis and abuses amtriplin pills, and after taking these drugs, he becomes violent, uncontrollable and acts in an unbecoming manner.”

She further said the last straw happened on October 12 after Munetsi had allegedly spent most of the day drinking alcohol.

“I confronted him about this behaviour to which he unleashed verbal abuse on me. He clearly put it across that he wanted to drag the name of Macheso into the mud and he also demanded money claiming that he had spent a lot of money on renovating the house which was donated to me as a wedding gift by my parents,” she said.

Sharon said Munetsi was always calling her on the phone demanding that she should return home to him or else or he would commit suicide.

“He has on several occasions in my presence attempted to commit suicide either by hanging or by stabbing himself with a kitchen knife,” Sharon claimed.
