Organisers of the festival Devine Assignments yesterday said they were going to launch the festival at a cocktail that would be attended by various executives and ambassadors.

“This is a new concept, but it will be an annual event that we hope will be understood and will get adequate support from different stakeholders and important individuals in their various capacities,” Devine Assignments director Biggie Chinoperekwei said.

“The festival presents numerous business opportunities, but they can only be realised when stakeholders co-operate. We would like to thank various partners that have come on board to make this a reality.”

Chinoperekwei said they were expecting one of the biggest crowds at the festival.

He said they had so far managed to partner with Delta Beverages, Doltec, Savannah Tobacco, Av-Pro Africa, Carex, and Kapoto Restaurant, among others. The festival is modelled on the same lines as the famous Munich October Beer Festival that attracts 6 million people for 16 days.

Chinoperekwei said although they cannot yet promise to bring 6 million people, they were targeting to make significant strides towards that with the launch edition.

“It is achievable with efforts in the correct areas,” he said.

“What is important is to start and learn from the experiences. We are trying to revive a dying beer culture thereby creating opportunities for different stakeholders.”

The highlight tonight will, however, be the Zimdancehall night affirming the phenomenal growth of the genre.

An array of chanters billed to perform at the event include Soul Jah Love, Tocky Vibes, Killer T, Guspy Warrior, and Freeman, among others, while Gary B will rock it on the turntables.

Interestingly, the “ailing urban grooves” also get a slot tomorrow afternoon alongside rhumba and dance groups.

Tomorrow night’s main programme will be mainly surprise packages, according to Chinoperekwei, as well as DJ clashes.
