MDC-T national chairperson Lovemore Moyo survived a horrific accident on Saturday night after his vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with another car as he allegedly attempted to avoid hitting a stray cow along the Harare-Chivhu Road.

The party’s national organising secretary Nelson Chamisa yesterday said Moyo and his four passengers sustained serious injuries and were initially admitted to Chivhu Hospital and later transferred to United Bulawayo Hospital.

Chamisa said the accident happened as Moyo tried to avoid hitting a stray cow that was crossing the road and encroached onto the opposite lane, resulting in the collision.

Moyo, who served as Speaker of the National Assembly for the last Parliament, was driving to his Bulawayo base after attending an MDC-T national executive meeting in Harare.

“The crash was almost fatal, and it was head-on after Moyo tried to avoid a cow which had encroached onto the road,” Chamisa said.

“There were four other passengers in the vehicle and they all sustained serious injuries, but they were quickly whisked off to Chivhu Hospital for medical attention,” he said.

Chamisa added: “We are making frantic efforts to ensure they get all the medical attention required. We do not suspect any foul play at all,” Chamisa said. Police yesterday said they were yet to receive the accident report.
