His bodyguard Beden Mawire had earlier on been charged over the same offence and remanded to September 16.

Matambanadzo recently appeared at the same court charged with assaulting Gokwe Kana legislator Owen Ncube (Zanu PF).

In the latest case, the State alleged that on August 10 this year Matambanadzo and Mawire met Msipa at Blood Spot Shop in Amaveni and assaulted him after labeling him an ally of Justice minister Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Following the alleged assalt, Msipa sustained injuries on his left eye and received six stitches while he was admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital for nearly a week.

Matambanadzo, who was represented by Liberty Mashanyare, was remanded out of custody on $50 bail to September 16.

Mashanyare told the court that his client was facing fabricated charges.

“We are waiting for the trial which will be a platform for our client to prove his innocence, the truth will be laid bare,” he said.
