After the heavy yearly licence fees of $100 imposed by some archaic act, years of plundering and mismanagement, programming belonging to the bygones and of course the unfathomable personalities and presenters, one just cannot help watching the channel.

But of late there has been a glimmer of hope brought by the young and effervescent V Candy who anchors the new programme Club E.

Born Nonhlanhla Tutani, the 25-year-old presenter of the programme Club E is a marvel to watch as she brings a well-researched production for the youth that loves to keep in touch with the world.

The programme that shows on Fridays has already proven to be popular among the youths.

V Candy, who is also a presenter at ZiFM Stereo, told NewsDay last week that her aim was to make the production a red carpet affair.

“This is a global show, that does movie reviews, movie of the week, showbiz news and celebrity news including the Zimbabwean A list,” she said.

“Already we have done profiles of Zimbabweans excelling abroad like Danai Gurira who featured on Walking Dead, Wiina Lusion Musamati from Game of Thrones and top model Nyasha Matonhodze among others.

The programme that started showing on August 22 brings a new dimension to local showbiz that may have been a missing link for the troubled station’s courtship of a young audience. And as suspected, V Candy acceded, the conceptualisation of the programme got inspiration from the international channel E! that shows on DStv. E! had programmes like Fashion Police hosted by the late Joan Rivers. V Candy interestingly is also an intriguing character who has numerous stories to tell. Besides radio and tv, she is also a musician and an actress. On music she has so far featured on of Brick and Lace sisters Naila’s track Stand Up while she has roped in the other sister Nyanda in her forthcoming track Mayhem. “The track is expected in the next few weeks. It is a party anthem; the kind of track that you play after a hard day’s work and you want to party hard,” she said. “The track also features Eve and Kat Dahlia and I am also doing two other collaborations with French Montana and Sean Paul which will be on Marc Mandisoul’s Presents International Collaborations.” The compilation will also feature local Buffalo Souljah, Young Nash regional artistes like Cleo Ice Queen, Fiesta Black and Casper Nyovest, among others. Mandisoul trebles as her fellow anchor on the programme, producer and business partner at their production house Entertainment Africa. She said they managed to get contact with the artistes using Mandisoul’s international contacts and the artistes agreed to work with her. “Eve, Nyanda and Kat Dahlia have already done their verses and the track will be out soon,” she said. V Candy is a holder of a BSc Honours Degree in Political Science and is studying towards her Masters in International Relations. Born on September 5 1989, she is the last born in a family of four, but made sure to make it clear she is not a spoilt child. “My parents made sure to teach me to work hard and I am versatile because of that,” said.
