SUNRISE Academy won the Harare Junior Football League Under 21 tournament after beating Total Football Academy 4-2 on penalties .

SUNRISE Academy won the Harare Junior Football League Under 21 tournament after beating Total Football Academy 4-2 on penalties in the final over the weekend after the match had ended 0-0 after regulation time.

The tournament was held at the Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield and 21 teams featured, including Dynamos, Caps United and Black Rhinos and Aces Academy took part.

Former footballers Laban Kandi, Friday “Amayenge” Phiri, Lovemore Makwavarara and Desmond Maringwa were part of the crowd. Thomas Kadyaridzire of Total Football Academy, who is also in the Under-17 national team, was the top goal scorer with four goals.

Abraham Chawodza of Sunrise was named the Player of the Tournament while his teammate Dennis Chikanga was the Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

DZ Academy and Catholic Saints were placed third and fourth respectively.

Some of the tournament’s sponsors included Eland Group of Colleges, who donated 2 litres of Mazoe to each participating team, Vivon (Pvt) Ltd donated 50 cases of mineral water while Staysun Investment Pvt Ltd (Ligi) supported by supplying burgers and soft drinks.

The next tournament will be on the weekend of October 18 and 19 for the Under sides and 25 teams are expected to take part.
