Senzeni Na? is the track that catapulted him to fame and Nyathi had initially scheduled commemorations for the Heroes’ holidays.

Revellers attending tonight’s show will be taken down memory lane where the poet will perform some of his personal favourites.

The track, a fusion of poetry and music that won the hearts of many and emphasises peace, is delivered in a melancholic manner that should get the audience grooving.

Starting at 8pm, the show will see the paying audience getting copies of either the poet’s CDs, DVD or his book titled My Daughter.

The night will show a fusion of poetry, music and comedy as various artistes will take to the stage in support of the commemoration.

Musicians Willis Watafi, Imbongi A Capella, poet Chirikure Chirikure and comedians Q the Boss and Doc Vikela are some of the artistes set to perform tonight.

Speaking to NewsDay, Nyathi said: “I am excited about the show and we are expecting up to 350 people to grace the event which is doable as we have already sold 100 tickets so far.”

The poet said he would also be at the show in his capacity as the face of Population Services International where he would encourage all the males to get circumcised.

He said the show would emphasise diversity of Zimbabwe as there would be performances in Tonga, Shona, English, Ndebele and Kalanga languages.

“This show will mark the beginning of my public performances after a long time as I have been doing private functions. After this show, I am set to perform in Bulawayo at Archers Sports Bar on the 26th of this month, then the following day I will make an appearance at the Intwasa Festival,” Nyathi said.

Nyathi has dedicated tonight’s show in commemoration of his long-time friend Thomas Deve, a veteran journalist who succumbed to heart attack at the weekend. Sadly, Naomi Makwenda will not be performing at the show as she is currently writing exams, but Prudence Katomeni, who was actively involved in the making of Senzeni Na?, will be at the show.
