Nigerian musician Nneka has pulled out of this year’s edition of the Shoko Festival.

The announcement was made on Thursday afternoon by the organisers of the festival at a press conference held at the Rainbow Towers Hotel.

“Shoko Festival deeply regrets to announce the German Nigerian superstar will not be able to perform at the fourth edition of the Shoko Festival due to health reasons.

“She has been in and out of hospital in Germany for the last week. Nneka’s tour manager Thorsten Seegler said “Believe me, I feel sorry about this”.”

The statement quoted the artiste as having said: “Dear all I am sorry for this sudden cancellation, I yself do not feel very good with all that has happened due to the fact that I am no9t feeling well and strong enough to do this trip I have had to disappoint you; and I apologise.

“Please let this not destroy our working relationship, it is something that I was unable to control at the right moment with due respect I hope to make it right.

“I thank you for all the love and support you have given and of course your understanding and light regardless.”

The festival which started on Wednesday will see South African rapper HHP filling up the void.

The festival will also witness rising diva Ammara Brown on Friday alongside Tehn Diamond, The Makokoba Project (United Kingdom) featuring Dhadza D and Ba Shupi among other artistes.

“The Makokoba Project features rappers Rodney P and MC Fallacy,” said the statement.

“The night will be shut down by DJs Raxx and Radizz who are presenting who are presenting the Audio Visual Party.”

Shoko festival directorsaid: “We sincerely apologise to all those who wanted to see Nneka live. We hope she gets well and can rock the stage in Harare very soon. The show will go on and we promise Shoko fans a fantastic Friday night with amazing local and international acts. HHP is a pioneer of African hip hop and an amazing live performer. He will be flying to Zimbabwe with his full band and is raring to go!”

Produced by Magamba Network, Shoko festival is the fastest growing Zimbabwean festival themed along urban culture.

It features electronic dance music, DJ parties, Hip Hop, dancehall, comedy, spoken word, new media discussions and workshops. The festival runs from September 25 to 28.
