Mapepa was infuriated when his wife lost a 5 rand coin meant to pay for milling maize.

The accused who resides in Mtongwizo village, under Chief Chihota pleaded guilty to assault charges when he appeared before magistrate Lazarus Murendo on Thursday.

In his ruling, magistrate Murendo said the assault was unjustifiable.

“One cannot understand how a man can be so provoked by the loss of 5 rands to the extent that you lose control and kick her on the stomach with booted foot, proceeds to head-butt her and further assault her several times,” Murendo said.

“It only shows that you value money at the expense of human life.”

Prosecutor Zuvarashe Mushayabasa told the court that on September 3, the accused gave his wife Marry Saki (33) 10 rands to use at the grinding mill. He proceeded to Muderedzi Business centre to drink beer.

On her way to the grinding mill, Saki lost a 5 rand coin and proceeded to the business centre to explain to her husband what had happened.

The accused person started fuming and charged at his wife, kicking her on the stomach, head-butting her on the forehead and bashed her with a stickball all over.

After the thorough beating the couple proceeded to their home where the accused evicted his wife. Saki sustained some injuries and made a police report leading to her husband’s arrest.
