ALICK Macheso and Sulumani Chimbetu, who recently kissed and made up after a long time of acrimony, revive their rivalry tonight alas on a musical front.

The two musicians will both be playing in the south-western suburbs of the capital literally fighting to control the show-going audience.

While it is proven that Macheso’s venue, New Life Night Club in Budiriro, is tried and tested, Sulu will be out to exorcise the demons of Las Vegas Nite Club in Southerton.

The rebranded Las Vegas’ previous proprietors had run down the venue which sometimes housed tobacco farmers while they waited for their transactions to be processed at the auction floors which are within a kilometre from the club.

Macheso’s assistant manager Jetio Machanja said they had organised the show at New Life to mitigate the damage that had been done by a communication breakdown between their management and that of Ritz Nite Club in Masvingo where they had been booked initially.

Machanja said they had to scramble to come up with the New Life Nite Club show, but could, however, not cancel other shows that had been booked in Beitbridge and Zvishvane.

Macheso will travel to Beitbridge for a show at Dulibadzimu Stadium tomorrow before rounding up his weekend in Zvishavane.

“They told us they had booked another band at the same venue, but they had not communicated that to us so we had to come up with a plan,” said Machanja. Ritz will be hosting Peter Moyo tonight.

On the other hand, Sulu, fresh from his United Kingdom tour, will be returning to charm music lovers with samples from his forthcoming album that is due later this month.

According to Joe Nyamungoma, the musician’s publicist, their return from the UK should give them an advantage.

“Music is more of a mission than a competition, but as inevitable as it is to talk about numbers, we have a good chance for a good show considering that the venue has been spruced up and, of course, we have been away so some may have been starved of a bit of dendera music,” he said.

“We are also playing at a venue that is closer to the central business district so it will not be a long drive for revellers.”

The result can never be before a match, but it is important to note that both musicians have unreleased material they will be using to charm their respective audiences.

Macheso is known to be a fighter and recently proved it by remaining a darling after divorcing his second wife Fortunate Tafadzwa Mapako and various sad chapters.

Sulu does have pressure after the success of the previous album Syllabus, but he has done it before, he has grown with each album.
