THE Affirmative Action Group (aag) has weighed in with assistance for actress Pretty Xaba who is due to undergo an urgent operation in India.

SILENCE CHARUMBIRA ENTERTAINMENT REPORTER This comes after a group of artistes gathered for a fundraising show at Book Café on Tuesday evening that was aimed at raising funds for the affable actress.

Best known for her role in the local soapie Studio 263 in which she starred as Mai Muvengwa, Xaba is suffering from cancer of the oesophagus.

Yesterday, Taonga Mafundikwa, the co-ordinator of the fundraising, said they had been alerted by the AAG president Chamu Chiwanza that Xaba’s air tickets had been secured.

“What was realised and what was pledged yesterday [Tuesday] is still being collated to see how much we have raised and how much is still needed, but I am supposed to be going to a meeting this afternoon to meet the AAG President who has managed to mobilise something to meet the travelling expenses from Pretty,” Mafundikwa said. “In terms of attendance, it was very good and it is good to note that we are really coming out in support of one of our own.

“We will be releasing the figures tomorrow [today] and hoping to get responses from corporates that we approached, but have not responded yet.”

He said they were expecting most of the resources to come from corporates that have worked with Xaba before.

“We are hoping they will be doing something because Pretty is a voice-over artiste and she has been pushing their brands,” Mafundikwa said.

“Now when she is down and she needs something, they too should be stepping out to assist her get the medical attention that she needs.”
