Provincial administration secretary Kindness Paradza said the decision to hand over the suspects to police was reached during a PCC meeting held in Chinhoyi on Sunday. The party membership cards were given to sitting and aspiring parliamentarians and district chairpersons for sale to party members at $1 each in the run-up to the party’s primary elections last year.

It emerged during the meeting that some of the missing cards were allocated to Makonde losing candidate Risipi Kapesa, Hurungwe MP Godfrey Beremauro, provincial chairperson and Hurungwe West Temba Mliswa and several district chairpersons.

“Yes, we resolved that the law should take its course even if it means reporting the culprits to the police . . .I will see to it that the cards have been accounted for since it falls within my portfolio,” Paradza said.

The cards were used as identification documents during Zanu PF primary elections that were marred by allegations of violence, vote buying and bussing in of voters.

Mliswa confirmed receiving the party cards for his constituency and and said he would do follow-ups to find out why the money has not yet been surrendered to the party offices.

“The cards were given to our branches and cells within the constituency and i will make a follow up on why the money was not handed over to the offices,” Mliswa said.

The party’s national secretary for adminstration Dydmus Mutasa could not be reached for comment.

Zanu PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo said he had not yet received the report from Mashonaland West provincial leadership.
