DYNAMOS are set to lose their rising star Blessing Moyo to the South African Premiership with wealthy football club Mamelodi Sundowns reportedly circling above the talented defender.

A Dynamos source yesterday told NewsDay Sport that the Pretoria side is ready to swoop on the 19-year-old right-back in January.

“Mamelodi Sundowns have been monitoring the youngster and want to give him a trial in November soon after end of the season. They were impressed by the player during their tour here and Peter Ndlovu (Sundowns manager) made contact with the player’s representatives. If he passes the trial, he will leave as soon as January,” said a source.

However, Dynamos manager Richard Chihoro yesterday said he had not been contacted by any club including Mamelodi in relation to Moyo although he said the reports linking the defender away were not surprising considering his form lately. He referred questions to club secretary-general Webster Chikengezha who could not be reached for a comment.

“I have not received any communication from any club including Mamelodi Sundowns. It’s news to me, but if that is the case I won’t be really surprised. He has been very good since being promoted to the first team. He is one of the outstanding players at Dynamos right now. But like I said, I don’t have details, maybe they are talking to Chikengezha,” said Chihoro.

Moyo is one of the few players who have risen through the Dynamos junior ranks in recent times and gone on to make a mark in the first team.

The other notable player who came through the ranks and made an impact in recent years is Partson Jaure who recently signed for South African side Pretoria University.

Dynamos coach Kalisto Pasuwa used Moyo as a bit-part player last season before making him his first choice right-back this season.

The decision to promote the youngster to the first team and relegating the likes of Oscar Machapa and Thomas Magorimbo to the bench attracted mixed reactions from Dynamos supporters most of them who felt the fresh-faced player was not yet ripe for the big occasion.

But it appears Pasuwa has been vindicated as the lanky defender has been playing with the aplomb of a veteran since his first game for the club this season in the Harare derby in May.

Flawless performances then followed, but Moyo cemented his place in the hearts of the Dynamos fans with an absolutely brilliant long-range goal in Dynamos’ 2-0 win over How Mine in a One Wallet Cup match a fortnight ago.
