DENDERA musician Douglas Chimbetu has returned with a new album.

The album, his second, is titled Southern Letter.
Chimbetu told NewsDay in an interview yesterday that the album will be launched at Mbare Netball Complex on Friday.
The artiste’s effort, good or bad, is likely going to have an impact on the standard of Dendera music in the country with competitors, cousins Tryson and Sulumani and father Allan, nowhere near the recording studios.
Sulu’s Syllabus remains the yardstick, however, and Douglas’ effort will be judged accordingly.
Initially, Douglas was supposed to launch the album last month during Simon Chimbetu commemorations, but he missed the deadlines.
The launch is expected to be graced by the Chimbetus, dancehall chanters Killer T, Tocky Vibes, Kinnah and raunchy dancer Beverly Sibanda, among other artistes.

King Douglas, as the artiste prefers to be called, said he is confident that the album will catapult him to the next level of his career.
“The wait is over for our fans as we took enough time to release a well-crafted album,” Chimbetu said.
“I am happy with the support we are getting from fans and local promoters. I am optimistic that this project will be well received and do well on the market as compared to our debut album Tsimba.”
His first album failed to make an impact on the market and he, at one time, accused Diamond Studios of marketing his cousin Sulumani at his expense.
As a way of marketing the album, Douglas has been performing songs on the forthcoming album at his concerts over the past months with songs Tsamba and Samusha being well received by fans.
The six track album which was recorded at Diamond Studios is composed of tracks Samusha, Tsamba, Moyo Wangu, Samson, Ndege and Varoyi.
