NORMALCY is now expected to return in Lesotho following the intervention by the Sadc Troika on Politics, Defence and Security to thwart an apparent military coup.

Zimbabwean Foreign Affairs secretary Joey Bimha confirmed the development yesterday, adding that Lesotho Prime Minister Thomas Thabane and his deputy Mothetjoa Metsing were now expected to go back to Maseru after they buried their differences.
“The Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, involving South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe as the chair, had an opportunity to dialogue and also with the various parties involved,” Bimha said.
“The Lesotho leaders then talked to South African President Jacob Zuma and the two leaders have since made a joint statement that they will be going back to Maseru.”
Bimha said the Lesotho Premier had agreed to recall Parliament which was suspended about two months ago, and come up with a roadmap for normalising the situation with the assistance of a Sadc observer mission.
Thabane fled an alleged coup attempt to South Africa on Saturday and accused Metsing and the army of plotting the alleged coup.
According to Sadc officials, regional leaders rejected calls by Thabane for the immediate deployment of troops to help restore order in his country.
