Sulu was appointed during the Conferment of Badges of Rank for the Commissioner-General ceremony held on Wednesday at Harare Central Prison.

Commissioner-General of ZPCS Retired Major-General Paradzai Zimondi said the honour bestowed on the 32-year-old musician was in recognition of the high level of professionalism that he has exhibited through music.

“During the liberation war, music also helped in fighting the enemy as some songs that were composed carried encouraging messages that would bring bravery to the soldiers,” Zimondi said.

“As ZPCS, we also use music as part of our rehabilitation programmes, hence we see it fit to appoint Sulu as our ambassador to help us in our correctional services programmes.”

Zimondi applauded Sulu’s behaviour, describing him as one of the most disciplined musicians both on and off stage.

In line with Sulu’s ambassadorial status, the Sean Timba singer will be involved in several programmes that are designed to transform offenders who are behind bars.

Sulu said he was happy about the appointment, pledging to work with inmates on different projects.

“It is a great honour to be given such a responsibility to be appointed ZPCS brand ambassador and I am happy to be associated with some people who appreciate my talent,” he said.

“In our prisons, there are many talented inmates and I am going to identify ways that can assist them to nurture their musical talents.”

In memory of his father who was once an inmate at Harare Central Prison back in the 1990s, Sulu said he was going to adopt some of the holding cells and paint them if granted permission.

Last year when Sulu toured Harare Central Prison, he donated a guitar for use by the inmates who want to pursue musical careers. Sulu continues to package himself into a brand that cannot be ignored as evidenced by many companies that have partnered him to market their brands.

Recently, he was appointed ambassador of Corporate 24, a medical aid centre.

Several companies and organisations are realising the power of musicians in promoting their brands and this has seen several musicians signing endorsement deals.
