‘Second VP post a waste of resources’

MDC-T provincial structures in Matabeleland provinces have resisted the opposition party’s proposals to create a second vice-president’s post, describing it as a waste of resources.

Party spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora confirmed the development yesterday from Gwanda where the senior MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai and his top executives were holding consultative meetings with grassroots structures on proposed constitutional amendments to be tabled at congress in October.

The party leadership has already adressed provincial structures in Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and Bulawayo.

“It’s too early to say, but so far there are two distinct debates, for example, on the office of the second vice president. There appear to be serious resistance on that one because they don’t think it advances anything,” Mwonzora said.

He added that the party supporters were also of the view that the secretary-general’s post should be re-organised.

“We are yet to know of other provinces, but definitely the feeling is the secretary-general who is number five in the party hierarchy should have its powers and functions realigned as currently it has been generally vague, thus creating unnecessary schisms in the party,” he added.

Mwonzora added that the MDC-T wanted to capitalise on Zanu PF infighting to regroup and retain its lost ground in 2018.

  1. Very very spot on, don’t waste resources, 2nd VP post for what. Does the MDC have a Unity accord that gave birth to the MDC T.

  2. When Zanu pf created the second vice president post it was just a tricky to silence people from matebeleland. It was not genuine. Tribalism exist still in zanu pf.
We do not need 2 vice presidents. Our economy is bleeding already. Unity Accord is now history.

    1. You MDCs are just wasting your time Zimbabwe belongs to ZANU PF stop day dreaming and think that with your useless, uneducated, stupid and women hungry leader Richard Chematama will do anything. MDC yatopere is now history.

  3. DeKepekepe is day dreaming. MDC T is very much alive.Right now your ZANU PF fears a truly free&fair election against MDC.The economy is suffocating because of your clueless ZANU PF which ironically fears national dialogue.Your illegitimate ZANU PF government has dismally failed to revive Zimbabwe, foolishly blaming non-existent sanctions for their blatant failure. Clearly, your blind wishful thinking of the death for the MDC T will not get you anywhere although it’s your right. Some of your people wishfully claimed MDC T was dead&buried but complained bitterly when MT was recently invited to the UK.
It is very foolish for any political party to claim ownership of Zimbabwe. Leaders, like political parties, come & go but Zimbabwe forever remains.

  4. “The Secretary General who is number five in the party hierachy”. I thought the Secretary General is number 3 in the Party hierachy. Can someone explain 2 me how the MDC-T party hierachy look like, ie President, Vice President, National Chaiman, Secretary 4 Administration, —–
