HOW MINE started life after Philani “Beefy” Ncube on a winning note after securing a 1-0 victory over Chicken Inn in the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup.
A solitary goal in the opening half by Wonder Sithole was enough for How Mine to knock their city rivals out of the $500 000 Chibuku Super Cup tournament.
The gold miners seemed to be in turmoil following an eight match winless streak in the league campaign which led to the departure of coach Ncube with Isheanesu Chaka who was in charge of the team when they won promotion into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League taking over.
Chikurupati, as How Mine are affectionately known by their fans came into the duel with history backing them to progress following their 2-1 league win over the same opponent back in May.
Sithole delivered when it mattered most for How Mine when he got to the end of a Timothy January pass to open the scoring midway through the first half.
The gold miners largely dominated their city rivals for the majority of the match but were made to work hard for their win as they survived a late surge from Chicken Inn.
After the match the Chaka incumbent How Mine coach was happy with leading his charges to victory.
“I am very happy with this victory. We have not been playing well in our recent matches and winning against a good opposition like them [Chicken Inn] is a good achievement,” Chaka said.
“We have to continue working hard in our future matches and i am confident we will improve and achieve our targets.”
