MASHONALAND Central Provincial Affairs minister Martin Dinha has appealed to apostolic sect leaders to avoid being caught up in the factional fights that have rocked Zanu PF ahead of its elective congress in December.
Speaking at the burial of apostolic sect leader and provincial hero Hazvinei Micho Chikomo Changa in Bhobho communal lands on Monday, Dinha also warned sect members to desist from engaging in criminal activities.
Zanu PF draws much support from apostolic sect groups.
Dinha lamented factionalism in Zanu PF which he said was being fuelled by opportunists.
“Our party Zanu PF has been invaded by weevils. Factions are now destroying our party. These are opportunists,” Dinha said.
“President Robert Mugabe is there and [Vice-President] Amai [Joice] Mujuru is still there, so where do you want to go? Be satisfied with where you are.
“God is the one who puts leaders on the throne. All our leaders, including our President, were once prophesied by the deceased.
“We never planned for it though the deceased made us what we are today.”
He said although Mashonaland Central was one of the best provinces in terms of agriculture and politics, it was worrying that the province recorded the highest cases of rape and domestic violence.
“Offenders will be jailed,” Dinha warned.
