Adam Shungu (32) and Emmanuel Murwira (34), who both reside in Waterfalls, were initially sentenced to four years in prison before the court set aside one year for each of them on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Pauline Chamunorwa told the court that on June 2 this year, Shungu, Murwirwa and three other accomplices who are still at large, stormed Pharoah Gombe’s farm in Beatrice and attacked the latter after finding him in the tobacco grading shed.

They blindfolded Gombe, grabbed his mobile phone and tied both his hands and legs with a wire while menacingly dangling a knife on him.

The robbers then loaded the tobacco bales into their getaway truck and drove off.

Gombe reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of Shungu and Murwirwa the following day as they were trying to repack the tobacco in new bales at their hideout in Harare.
