ZIMBABWE’S premier women’s golf tournament, the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union Open Strokeplay Championship, tees off at Royal Harare Golf Club this morning with around 70 local and foreign golfers expected to fight for the top honours.

In an interview with NewsDay Sport, Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union publicity officer Evelyn Maisvoreva said all was set for an exciting tourney.
“In terms of preparations, everything is in place and we are already looking forward to a great tournament with the last year’s champion Angel Eaton from Tanzania already in the country to defend her title,” she said.
The championship and A Division players will tee off today while the B and C Divisions get to the green on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Championship players have a handicap of between 0-11 while the A Division is for players on 12-18 handicaps.
The B Division will feature players handicapped between 19 to 26 with 27 to 36 handicaps set to compete in the C Division.
The Championship and A Divisions will take part in a 54-hole battle over three-days while the B and C divisions are set to play 36 holes.

This year’s competition is expected to produce fireworks as last year’s runner-up; as Batsirai Tilowakuti making a lengthy maternity break.
Tilowakuti together with top Royal Harare golfer Yolander Mubaiwa absence will lead Zimbabwe’s charge to wrestle away the trophy from Eaton.
Other local female golfers to look out include the seasoned duo of Loice Chingono, Aulia Alfazema and Chapman Golf Club’s Shamiso Makwara who are all capable of springing a surprise.
Eaton, fresh from a scooping the Morogoro Open title in Tanzania last weekend remains the favourite to claim her second consecutive crown in Zimbabwe. Ugandan Jasper Kamukama is the other foreign golfer to look out for in the field.
Promising local juniors, Daniella Bekker and Margaret Nyamukondiwa are also expected to dominate the A and B Divisions respectively.
