The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) confirmed the members of Team Zimbabwe yesterday which will include 10 athletes, 6 officials and a young ambassador. They have also been confirmed by the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee.

In a statement, ZOC said: “The athletes will join other approximately 3 800 young athletes from all over the world who have qualified or received invitation to participate at the second edition of the games. They will also be expected to take part in the cultural and educational programme that forms the integral part of the YOG concept.”

The YOG, intended for athletes between the ages of 14 and 18, were founded by former International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge.

The games incorporate multidisciplinary sport with education and culture, as a means of bringing together young people from all over the world to participate in elite events that teach positive values, reignite interest in physical activity, and build respect and friendship.

The Culture and Education Programme is a critical component where participants will learn about global issues, be involved in well-being and healthy lifestyle activities, get an opportunity to “Chat with Champions” and interact with athlete role models.
