SOUTH AFRICA-BASED Zimbabwean model–cum–filmmaker Melgin Tafirenyika’s film, Sour Milk, is set to premier in the country next month.

The film, which was co–written by Tafirenyika and Nigerian scriptwriter Anderline-Gold Ergbuhuzor, tackles topical issues affecting marriages in which women are exposed to abuse and insecurity and once they find the courage to walk away, men describe it as “sour milk”.
Directed by award-winning Zimbabwean born Myre Chris Maramba, the film also features actors from Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
In an interview with NewsDay from his Johannesburg base last week, the Chitungwiza-bred filmmaker said sponsorship had remained a major hurdle in the film industry, forcing them to scrap around for financial resources.
“It was not that rosy to complete this production as we had no sponsors. We worked on a low budget from our own pockets just to make sure we fulfil our dreams of coming up with a product of international quality,” Tafirenyika said.
“We used expensive equipment to shoot the movie because we did not want to compromise on picture quality and sound.”
Sour Milk is an emotional story that exposes the dilemma faced by women in their lives were most woman persevere and turn out alright, others struggle and turn out broken and many manage, but end up losing themselves and the values they once upheld.

Tafirenyika hogged to global recognition with his first film I Will Mary Myself which was later bought by a United Kingdom-based television channel Africa-Magic where it is being currently aired.
Tafirenyika said he was working towards opening a film school in the country.
