CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele says the league is too congested for clubs to organise friendlies this season.

“Friendlies cannot be organised at the moment because of the renovations taking place at the stadiums and our programme is congested due to the cup games coming up,” Ndebele said.
“Negotiations took longer for the eight-team tournament that we will have.”
He did not give much detail on the eight-team tournament, but said the launch would be held soon. This revelation could prove a problem for Highlanders who were planning a friendly match against South African Premier League champions Mamelodi Sundowns, while another match was being planned between Dynamos and Highlanders.
No date had been set, but Highlanders chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede confirmed that they were in the process of planning the match.
Ndebele said once they had signed with the sponsor for the cup game, they would have to adjust the programme to fit it in.
“We have to consider the fact that the stadiums will soon be unavailable for the four Bulawayo teams [Chicken Inn, Bantu Rovers, How Mine and Highlanders] because of the youth games,” he said.

The PSL clubs are still to play in the yet-to-be-named eight-team tournament, the Chibuku Super Cup, the Zimbabwe National Army Charities Cup final, Mbada Diamonds Cup as well as complete the second half of the league season.
“There will be no break as well this season. The midweek games have been minimised at the moment for the duration of the World Cup. We have also done our programme for TV [SuperSport] for the 16 weeks,” he said.
