(Triangle won 7-6 after sudden death penalty shootout) PHINEAS Bamusi’s careless penalty kick denied Harare City a place in the semi-final of the One Wallet Cup after an 7-6 loss to Triangle United at Mandava Stadium yesterday.

The match had ended 1-1 in regulation time, with Triangle hitman Lameck Nhamo’s second-half goal cancelling out Nathan Ziwini’s goal in the first stanza.

Ronald Mudimu, Tinei Chitora, Blessing Chimwamuchere, Tichaona Chipunza, Nhamo, Brian Juwayeyi and Jimmy Tigere converted their spot-kicks for Triangle.

Raymond Uchena, Osborne Mukuradare, James Jam, Arnold Chivheya, Maxwell Nyamupanedengu and Tongai Chiworeso converted for Harare City. Felix Kuswatuka missed his effort from the penalty spot for Triangle, but was vindicated by the misses by Munyaradzi Diro Nyenye and Bamusi to knock out the municipal side.

After the match, Harare City coach Bigboy Mawiwi, whose tactical wits are reportedly curtailed by sabotage from within, did not hide his disappointment.

“I am naturally disappointed. In a game of football — a game of such magnitude — you cannot take a penalty like that [in reference to Bamusi’s spot-kick]. Sometimes players put their coaches under unnecessary pressure. We prepared well for these penalties and nobody took a penalty like that at training,” Mawiwi said.

Winning coach Biggie Zuze, who has found the going in the Premier League not that rosy, heaved a huge sigh of relief after seeing his charges progress in the cup and did not hide his desire of leading his team all the way to the podium.

“It was a difficult game, but we played well to get the equaliser in the second-half. The boys were well-composed in taking the penalties and I am happy that at the end of the day, we progressed to the next stage. It will be good if we go all the way to the final,” Zuze said.
