Dokora said this during the official opening of National Kids Quiz Show at Alliance Française on Saturday afternoon in Harare. “We should not worry about pass-rates at Grade Seven and Form Four when in fact we have not taken care of this early foundation module,” he said.

“We will answer future questions once we have done a solid piece of work at these levels.”

Dokora said his ministry would also be conducting a curriculum review at which point they will have all these centres as points of consultation.

He said he would also be looking at these facilities for conveniences to give space for Grade One and Grade Two with a teacher in charge to link the unit to the primary school. He urged the nation to embrace such initiatives as it was important to begin young in terms of laying a good foundation for the nation’s future.

Dokora commended the event’s chief executive, Jebes Muchapondwa of Kids Christian Institute, for continuously insisting on carrying out the event to the extent of visiting him up to five times to convince him.

In a bid to provide a benchmark for excellent education by providing a competitive environment amongst ECD centres the National Kids Quiz Show is aimed at promoting awareness to parents and ECD centres of the importance of early childhood development for every young child.

It also aims to provide a benchmark for excellent education by providing a competitive environment amongst ECD centres across the nation.

“Most parents don’t recognise the need for early childhood development, therefore, by showcasing the children’s talents through such platforms using various media platforms, we hope to motivate them,” Muchapondwa said.

He added that he would continue working with the Ministry of Education to finally achieve a national goal. Schools that participated at the official opening included Kids Christian Institute, St Theresa, Kupakwashe Pre-School and New Generation, all from Chitungwiza. He said this event would soon be moving to various provinces until it made impact across the nation.
