THE trial of the 13 suspected Zanu PF supporters implicated in the violent intraparty confrontation that rocked Mashonaland East Tobacco Graders in Bromley last week is set to open at Marondera Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The suspects first appeared in court last Thursday where they were formally charged with assault after they allegedly turned violent and blocked property owner Samson Chauruka from taking occupation of the farm.

The court remanded them in custody at St Thomas Remand Prison to tomorrow for trial.

Several people were reportedly injured during the bloody skirmishes that have also sucked in Goromonzi South MP Petronella Kagonye (Zanu PF).

The invaders claimed during the clashes that they had been allocated the same piece of land when she was a senior Lands officer in the same area.

However, Chauruka claims he bought the 40-hectare plot where the tobacco-grading facility is located in 2011 from a white farmer identified as Lesley Lombard.

Kagonye, who is also Transport deputy minister, has also been accused of attempting to wrest another piece of land which had been set aside for residential stands for 7 000 party supporters.
