Residents of Mucheke in Masvingo on Monday afternoon burnt a city council vehicle and a minibus in protest after a municipal cop allegedly ran over a three-month old baby during a raid on illegal vendors.
According to NewsDay Citizen Reporters, when the raid started, the baby’s mother, a vendor, fled from her selling point, leaving behind the napping baby, and her wares.
The council vehicle then reportedly ran over the child.
After the incident, angry residents reportedly started protesting, resulting in the cop fleeing to the nearby Chikato Police Station.
The council truck and a kombi was burnt during the brief protest that was eventually broke off by anti-riot police, reports a NewsDay Citizen Reporter.
