JIBILIKA Dance Festival was back in Mutare on Saturday to hold their preliminary competitions following four years of absenteeism in the province.
Kundai Marunya Own Correspondent The preliminary, which acted as a runner-up to the finals to be held in the coming months in Harare, saw 11 groups from around Manicaland province participating.
Four of the 11 contestants, namely Juvenile, Fire Crew, the reigning Zimbabwe’s Finest national champions Unity Edge and a solo act in the name of Rashid, were from Mutare.
Unity Edge, which comprise Terrence Mabvanya, Micheal Manuel, Nyasha Nchena, Dexter Kamukanyo and their leader Clint Ndlovu said they would do Mutare proud.
“We were all leaders of different dance crews who came together in 2009 after we realised dance was slowly dying in Mutare and we have managed to win Ghetto Fabulous, Zimbo Talent and Zim Finest doing our city proud,” Ndlovu said.
“Come national finals, we hope to bring the glory back home.”
The group, which dances mostly to hip-hop, was well in unison, well-collaborated and their moves were flawless.
A little seriousness, descipline and professionalism minus a little bit of pride may see Unity Edge being crowned champions once again.

The other contenders, Juvenile, also promised to step up their game.
“We have been in the background for quite a long time emerging number two in quite a number of competitions including Starbright and Ghetto Fabulous,” Juvenile member Sean Chokai said.
“It’s about time we become champions and we will step up our game if need be.”
Juvenile comprise five members, among them Blessing Chikodzi, Jameson, Cashington Nyikayaramba and Alex Chimanga. The crew has been together since 2009.
Meanwhile, Harare beat boxer Pro-Beats wowed Mutare with an amazing display of talent which saw him performing various popular song including the national anthem in different genres.
His top-class performance saw the whole auditorium going wild in screams and ovation prompting him to perform several times, receiving a great reception all the way.
Jibilika’s next stop will be Marondera this coming Saturday where the Mashonaland East Provincial Finals are to take place. Other provincial finals in the coming weeks will be taking place in Bindura, Chinhoyi, Gweru and Bulawayo.
