AS the 2014 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) action resumes this weekend, Malawian international Gerald Phiri says his side will try to heal their bruised image when they clash with bitter rivals Dynamos in the reverse fixture of the Harare derby at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The PSL programme had taken a break to give way to the NetOne Wallet Cup tournament and goes into the second half this weekend with traditional rivals Dynamos and Caps United meeting for the fourth time this season.

The city rivals clashed in the Zimbabwe National Army Charity before the season started with Caps United triumphing 1-0. They then met in the league at the same venue a week ago with the match ending in a 1-1 stalemate.

Dynamos raced into the lead courtesy of veteran midfielder Murape Murape before Phiri rose from the bench to level the scores.

That draw was, however, for all intents and purposes a defeat for Caps United as they have failed to defeat Dynamos in a league match since 2009 when a Nyasha Mushekwi header powered them to a deserved victory.

To compound their woes, Taurai Mangwiro’s men were sent reeling out of the NetOne Wallet Cup tournament with former Bloemfontein Celtic striker Rodreck Mutuma deciding the contest late into the match.

Now they face off again with pride at stake. Phiri, however, refuses to be stigmatised by that poor run against their opponents, urging his teammates to believe in themselves.

He said they are trying their best to heal their bruised image and believes Dynamos will be beaten one day.  “We are trying our best to address this poor run against Dynamos,” said Phiri.

“We only need to believe in ourselves and we know we will finally beat them. So we are hoping to put our best show on Sunday, but we are approaching the match like any other.”

Phiri had attracted the interest of ABSA Premiership side SuperSport United who called him up for trials three weeks ago, but he got injured before he was assessed forcing him to return home.

He returned at the right time as he scored the crucial equaliser in his first league match against Dynamos since his return from the trials. But he refuses to take credit for the goal describing it as “ordinary”.
