A TEAM of parliamentarians is this Friday set to meet hundreds of Chisumbanje villagers who lost their farmland Green Fuel ethanol plant.

The team, which comprises members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment, will meet the affected villagers at Checheche Growth Point and later tour the ethanol plant.
The fact finding tour comes at a time when members of the Youth Development Trust in Chisumbanje chaired by Claris Madhuku told Parliament that Green Fuel was now reneging on its previous commitments to compensate the displaced villagers.
The villagers also accused Green Fuel of encroaching into their farmland and dumping waste in rivers resulting in deaths of livestock.
Green Fuel had reportedly promised to pick 75% of its labour force from the local community.
The $600 million ethanol project was set up by businessman Billy Rautebach in partnership Arda and Macdom Investments.
