ZIMTRADE is set to lead a trade and investment mission to Tete, Mozambique, in August this year in a bid to revive Zimbabwe’s waning export market.

According to the export manufacturing capacity survey by ZimTrade and the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries, only 40% of companies were still exporting their products as the majority had either closed shop or massively reduced their production levels.
The Mozambican trip is set to take place from August 13 and 14 and was a follow-up to the first one undertaken in November 2012 and the subsequent market research of the Tete, Nampula and Niassa provinces carried out last year.
“The mission is expected to build on the momentum gained during November 2012, when participating companies obtained orders and established contacts in Tete,” ZimTrade said in a statement.
“Those companies already in the market will be able to consolidate their market positions and cement relations with their business partners.”
ZimTrade, however, said the mission would also provide an opportunity for companies exploring the market for the first time to establish new contacts.
The trade promotion body said economic activities in and around Tete was currently underpinned by coal mining with downstream opportunities in the supply of a diverse range of goods and services as well as cross-border investments in such sectors as construction, tourism and agro-industry, among others.
