The emotive issue is set to be introduced in the National Assembly by Goromonzi West MP Biata Nyamupinga (Zanu PF) and seconded by MDC-T Kuwadzana MP Lucia Matibenga when Parliament business resumes tomorrow.

“We are concerned by the death and injury of female vendors and their children as a result of raids by municipal police in urban centres particularly in the central business district,” read the notice of motion by Nyamupinga.

“We resolve that government should designate areas for the construction of vending stalls in prime marketing areas in the CBD [central business district] and regulate vending activities by the introduction of vendors’ licences,” it reads.

Today, the National Railways of Zimbabwe is expected to appear before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Transport and Infrastructural Development to speak on its operational challenges.

Officials from the Harare City Council are also expected to appear before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Environment, Water, Tourism and Hospitality Industry today to speak on upgrading of the water treatment plant at Morton Jaffray, while Ministry of Environment officials are expected to appear before the same committee to speak on Tokwe-Mukorsi Dam and environmental issues.

The Chitungwiza Municipality town clerk has also been summoned to appear before the Public Service Portfolio Committee today to speak on grievances against municipality workers representatives who were recently fired after whistle blowing to the committee that management at the municipality had secret bank accounts where they paid themselves mega-salaries.
