Machingauta, who is also the MP for Budiriro in Harare, is set to launch another bail application at the Midlands Regional Court today.

In a statement yesterday, MDC-T national youth spokesperson Clifford Hlatshwayo claimed Machingauta had been arrested on trumped-up charges meant to derail the party’s campaign ahead of the 2018 elections.

“This is a tactic by enemies of progress who are trying to divert the youth assembly’s energies and focus and this comes after the youth assembly has made it clear that it will campaign on the streets. The youth assembly remains resolute. We are solidly behind our president; free Machingauta now,” Hlatshwayo said.

Machingauta took over from Solomon Madzore, who was dismissed after joining the MDC-T renewal team fronted by “fired” secretary-general Tendai Biti.
