MDC-T activists trial fails to take off again

THE trial of seven MDC-T activists implicated in the alleged murder of Police Inspector Petros Mutedza three years ago failed to take off.

THE trial of seven MDC-T activists implicated in the alleged murder of Police Inspector Petros Mutedza three years ago failed to take off for the second day running yesterday after Prosecutor-General’s representative, Edmore Nyazamba, failed to turn up for the hearing due to ill health.

SENIOR COURT REPORTER

High Court judge Justice Chinembiri Bhunu rolled the matter to Tuesday next week.

The trial was on Monday moved to yesterday after the court was advised that Nyazamba was unfit to attend court.

Mutedza was allegedly killed by MDC-T activists on May 29 2011 following disturbances at a Glen View shopping centre in Harare. Initially, 31 MDC-T members were arrested in connection with the case, but the activists, except seven, were acquitted at the close of the State case last year.

The remaining suspects — Last Maengahama, Tungamirai Madzokere, Yvonne Musarurwa, Lazarus Maengahama, Edwin Muingiri, Phineas Nhatarikwa and Paul Rukanda — have since been put to their defence.
