DYNAMOS shot stopper George Chigova might be playing his last match for the champions on Sunday when they travel to the Colliery to face Hwange in a Castle Lager Premiership football tie.

Chigova is heading for South African Premiership side SuperSport United after an impressive performance in national colours at the African Nations Championships (Chan) tournament. SuperSport United are expected to start their pre-season training on June 23.

The big goalkeeper proved his heroics between the poles at the Chan tournament where Zimbabwe reached the semi-finals- their first time to achieve that feat since the tournament designed exclusively for home based players was inaugurated some four years ago.

The Dynamos keeper manned his goal jealously at the tournament, conceding just two goals in open play and was also the hero in the penalty shootout against eventual champions Libya after saving two penalties in the 5-4 (sudden death) defeat which saw them crashing out of the tournament at the semi-final stage.

That heroic show between the posts caught the eye of SuperSport United who immediately swooped on the Zimbabwean goalkeeper.

Chigova, who signed a three-year contract with the Pretoria outfit, revealed yesterday Sunday’s match could be his last as he prepares for a new life in the Absa Premiership.

“I am supposed to join Supersport for pre-season training, but I am not sure when because they (Supersport) are yet to send me a ticket. I am just waiting, but the Sunday match against Hwange could be my last.

“It’s sad that I will be leaving Dynamos — the team that helped me to be where I am today. These things happen in football, but at the same time you also need challenges as a player. I am also happy at the same time to be leaving Dynamos after winning three league titles. I hope I will be able to get a first team jersey at SuperSport. It will not be easy, but if I work hard, it will be possible,” Chigova said.

Should he leave DeMbare after the match against Hwange, he will miss the big clash against old foes Highlanders in Harare on June 22 as well as the Harare derby against Caps United, leaving second choice Artwell Mukandi between the sticks.

Former Dynamos and Highlanders striker Makwinji Soma-Phiri, Joel Luphahla, Kaitano Tembo and Simbarashe Sithole had a stint the Absa Premiership side, while former Warriors goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar once served the team as its goalkeeper’s coach.
